This collection of recordings represents a record of Modern Uyghur as used in casual conversation by diaspora speakers in the early 21st century. The conversations are unscripted, unplanned, and recorded by the participants themselves in their homes or other spaces, with no researcher present.

This corpus is intended to be a resource for anyone learning Uyghur on their own, teaching Uyghur to others, or doing research on various aspects of Uyghur language and linguistics. The contents may be used freely for any of these purposes. Most of the conversations were recorded with the participants’ phones. Some of them used the iPhone settings that record full-quality lossless audio; others used the regular settings that involve some compression of the sound. One conversation was recorded over Zoom. The metadata on the page for each conversation specifies the details.

An explanation of the transcription conventions, the Uyghur Latin Script used in the transcripts, and the abbreviations used for the grammatical analysis can be found here.

Each transcript can also be downloaded as an .xml file and also as an .eaf file, which can be opened in the program ELAN along with the audio.
